Overview
| Name | Type Soo Mine Knowledge-Sharing Smart Glass Day (技術共有スマートグラスType Soo Mineの日) |
|---|---|
| Date | May 26 |
| Established by | Soo City, Kagoshima Prefecture and USEYA CO., LTD. (jointly) |
| Certified by | Japan Anniversary Association |
| Origin of the date | May 26, 2026 — the day Soo City and USEYA issued a press release and first announced their smart glass initiative to the public |
| Purpose | To make more people aware that the skills and judgement built up by experienced workers in the field, supporting social infrastructure, can be shared and passed on using TSM |
Why the day was established
At water and sewerage sites and elsewhere across Japan's social infrastructure, staff shortages and an ageing workforce are advancing at the same time, and skills and judgement built up over many years risk being lost before anyone takes them over. Fieldwork has always rested on the "watch and learn" part that no written manual can convey.
TSM is a system developed to record that invisible expertise as video and hand it over to distant sites and to the next generation. Establishing this day is one way of making the problem, and the work being done on it, visible to people outside the field.
About TSM (Type Soo Mine)
TSM is a knowledge-sharing smart glass platform that brings "the eyes of the field" to people somewhere else. It is being developed jointly by Soo City, Kagoshima Prefecture and USEYA CO., LTD.
- Streams the point-of-view video of the person wearing the smart glasses in real time, so several people in other locations can see the site and offer support
- Records site video, so the experience and judgement of skilled workers can be shared and turned into training material
Beyond remote support — from "seeing and connecting" to "keeping." The aim is to apply it to passing down skills and to training. In October 2026, the partners announced an expansion from water and sewerage into veterinary medicine.
Comment from the President
Skills live in people. When a person leaves the field, the judgement they have built up goes with them. TSM is a way to keep that invisible expertise as video and hand it to the next generation, or to another field entirely.
Receiving this day gives us more occasions to let people outside the field know about the work. Together with everyone in Soo City, we will make May 26 a day to think about passing skills on.
Osamu Ohji, President and Representative Director, USEYA CO., LTD.
Looking ahead
USEYA will extend the TSM approach developed in water and sewerage to a range of other fields, starting with veterinary medicine. By recording, sharing and turning the experience and judgement of skilled workers into training material, we aim to support the transfer of skills across disciplines.
